Todays post is a: late, and b: maybe more tangentially related to Ukrainian. But there is a connection. But, first things first. Today is the 22nd of September (вересень, more on months coming up), which is known as Hobbit day. This date is when both Bilbo and Frodo, in the books about the Lord of the Rings, have their birthday. Which also means that it is the day that Bilbo decided to leave the Shire for good.
I am a roleplayer and like to play different roleplaying games. This weekend was the time for a yearly tradition where me and some friends go out to a cabin by Lake Vänern in Sweden, and spend the entire weekend playing roleplaying games. Since today was Hobbit day, one of the games we played was the One Ring, a roleplaying game where you can play in Tolkiens Middle-Earth, as Hobbits and Elves and Dwarves and all.
Which brings me to a very nice gift that was given to my by very dear friends. They found a comic book version of the book “The Hobbit”. In Ukrainian.
It is a very nice, hard-bound book, as can seen by the cover.
Shown here is the very first, iconic and important meeting between Bilbo and Gandalf, outside of Bilbos house. Those who know the book, also know that “Good morning” plays a big part in that scene. It can be seen here as добрий ранок (which looks slightly different in hand-writing, but I think it should be possible to find), or “dobryy ranok”.
With that said: Happy Hobbit Day to you all!
